On Your Mark, Get Set... READ! Summer Reading, 2016

In the spirit of our library renovation and unifying our service desks into a single customer service desk, we've decided to unify our summer reading program as well. Our theme this year is On Your Mark, Get Set... Read!  Starting July 5, stop by the library to pickup your summer reading packet and track your reading progress to earn prizes later in the month. Keep in mind that the library will be closed July 11 through July 23, so be sure to stock up on reading material or plan to use the Bookmobile or sister SEO libraries during that time.

No matter the age of the participant, one reading tracking slip will be used. Parents of newborns through kindergarten age children will keep track of every book that is read to the child, resulting in 16 books per completed slip; first graders through adults will keep track of every 15 minutes that they read, with a completed slip equaling four hours of reading.  Additional tracking slips can be downloaded from our site.

All ages will be able to claim their reading prizes starting July 25, once the library has reopened. Participants will have the option to redeem their slips for an immediate prize (one per person per day) suiting their age and interests or enter their completed slips (unlimited) for a chance to win one of ten large prizes each week, which are also suited to a wide range of ages and interests.

Also starting July 5, any child who participated in the Head Start activities during the month of June may redeem their "game board" with at least 20 squares completed for a book their choice. Any Head Start participant that completes all 30 squares receives a book of their choice, a "gold" winner medal, and one reading champion yard sign (one per family).

An optional addition to the summer reading program this year is our Read It Forward Read-a-thon. If you'd like to read for yourself and benefit others at the same time, then this program is for you! For more information, click here.

Happy Reading!
