Libraries Transform

The American Library Association (ALA) has launched a campaign entitled Libraries Transform to "increase public awareness of the value, impact and services provided by libraries and library professionals." This campaign, by happy coincidence, aligns with Ashland Public Library's current renovation of its main floor. In order to serve the public to their fullest abilities, it is essential for libraries to constantly transform themselves and keep abreast of all of the changes happening in the world of technology, science, and popular culture, along with many other topics.

This year, during National Library Week, we asked visitors of the library to write a short statement explaining how their library helped them this year. The following are a sample of the responses we received:

This year my Library helped me...

"Find lots of great books! I turned off the cable and the internet and spend all of my free time with my nose in a book. It's the best thing I have ever done! Thank you!" - B.R.

"Find great books that I enjoy reading. When I cannot find the book I need, I get help from kind employees at the library." - K.C.

"Look up movies and enjoy new things. Just love the workers..." - Anonymous

"Get a superior in two science fairs!!! YAY!" - O.S.

"With everything!" - The Johnny

"Make sure I got every form, schedule, and publication I needed to get our taxes filed. Also, got books for the grandkids!" - S.M.

"Plan my garden! And helped me learn how to create an edible front yard that is also beautiful. This year our garden is 100% organic and will be very productive! Thank you!" - R.H.

"Find books that were in my Lexile and find books that I liked." - E.R.

"Get my favorite book so I read more." - T.D.

"Love reading Christian books, especially suspense. Great selection - also like magazines and special events. Great people here to help when I need it! Keep it up!" - M.W.

"Find books that I needed." - A.E.

"Meet new people and have great adventures!" - Anonymous

"Work on my MLIS degree." - Anonymous

"Meet new people and watch a lot of new movies. Thanks again." - Anonymous

There are many services libraries offer, as evidenced by the comments above. How has your library helped you this year? Feel free to comment on our Facebook page, tweet it out on Twitter with the hash tag #librariestransform, or just tell your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and library staff!
